Undertook an opportunity-scouting exercise across several European markets in relation to broadcasting tower assets

The problem

• Our client, a leading international tower company, was considering an investment in the European broadcasting tower industry
• The client required support to better understand the technology roadmap for the broadcasting tower industry in Europe, and to undertake an opportunity-scouting exercise to identify attractive markets for investment

The solution

• Analysys Mason produced a detailed technology roadmap for the broadcasting tower industry, based on more than a dozen interviews with internal and external experts in the broadcasting and media markets
  • our roadmap included an assessment of the main drivers of demand in the TV and radio broadcasting markets, competition from alternative platforms, and how these factors were likely to evolve in different European markets
• Drawing on the conclusions of our technology roadmap, we conducted a comprehensive opportunity-scouting exercise across 44 markets in Western and Eastern Europe taking into account:
  • market-level factors (e.g. macroeconomic stability, DTT¹ penetration, OTT² take-up and expected future broadcasting revenue)
  • availability of specific tower assets in the markets identified
  • potential for future upside (e.g. from mobile co-location)
• The opportunity-scouting exercise enabled us to identify a number of potentially available tower assets in attractive markets

The result

• Our analysis was delivered in a series of workshops and a final report which our client used to inform its mergers-and-acquisitions strategy
