On behalf of the board of a European telecoms operator we conducted an independent review of its investment decision regarding its telco cloud strategy

The problem

• Our client, a European telecoms operator, engaged Analysys Mason to review and validate the material used by the operator for making an investment decision on its telco cloud strategy and provide an independent recommendation on the way forward
• Our client also required advise on any potential adjustments or concerns that Analysys Mason believed should be taken into account

The solution

• We reviewed the material used by the client for making its investment decision, which was based on a framework that examined several key attributes:
  • business objective and target outcome
  • constraints
  • definition of options
  • analysis of each option 
  • recommendation of decision 
  • objective verification
• As part of our review, we conducted interviews with the client’s management team and consulted our in-house subject-matter experts on network virtualisation, programme management of relevant transformation and implementation activities, sourcing, and financial forecasting

The result

• Our review confirmed that the client’s management team had carried out detailed analysis prior to making its investment decision; as such, we supported the proposed decision and future roadmap for implementation of its telco cloud strategy
• The client also appreciated our thoughts and considerations on what needed to be secured in negotiations with vendor, to avoid future lock-in effects
