Speed- and content-based pricing are emerging as two key 5G mobile pricing models
Many mobile operators are reopening the question of pricing models in advance of the launch of 5G. Some are using the launch as an opportunity to revisit the way that they structure their tariffs, which means potentially moving away from volume-based pricing towards either speed-based pricing or content tiering. These pricing models, while not new, are designed to showcase the benefits of 5G and monetise its improved network performance through new content and services. This comment reviews pricing models based on speed and content and discusses their advantages and disadvantages.
