"Cellular data might be approaching saturation in some more-advanced mobile markets and new types of mobile-suitable content will need to emerge before data growth rates can re-accelerate."

Analysys Mason’s new report Wireless network data traffic: worldwide trends and forecasts 2023–2029 shows that the volume of cellular data traffic worldwide breached the zettabyte barrier for the first time in 2023, reaching 1.2ZB, up from 987EB in 2022. The year-on-year growth rate of 22% represented a decline compared to 2021/2022 and was the fifth year in a row that the cellular traffic growth rate has slowed. (The year-on-year growth rate was 93% in 2018). It will be important for the industry to work out whether anything is likely to cause traffic growth to re-accelerate again.
