Ericsson’s reorganisation of its enterprise wireless unit should help to streamline its private network offering
Ericsson announced, at its Enterprise Industry Analyst Day in September 2024, that it has rebranded its enterprise wireless division and expanded its portfolio. As part of the exercise, Ericsson has rebranded two previous acquisitions: Cradlepoint, a cellular equipment provider (acquired by Ericsson in 2020), and Ericom, a cloud security firm (acquired by Cradlepoint in 2023).
The reorganisation should help to streamline Ericsson’s enterprise 5G proposition by creating two separate portfolios: Enterprise 5G, which brings together private network capabilities from Ericsson and Cradlepoint, and Wireless WAN, which focuses on the cellular hardware and cloud management products that were previously sold by Cradlepoint. The exercise may also help Ericsson to capitalise on the growing interest in combined neutral-host and private network solutions.
