Data platform providers (DPPs) are incorporating generative AI (GenAI) to enhance various capabilities within the data value chain. GenAI enables DPPs to address challenges such as lower user engagement with platforms and to improve user experience. Use cases for GenAI in data platforms include data asset description, creation and editing of SQL queries using natural language, and search functionality. As these developments progress, DPPs must focus on ensuring that enterprise customers, including telecoms operators, understand the requirements to maximise the benefits of these advancements. Customers should be equipped with appropriate training to accelerate adoption.

In this article, Analysys Mason provides an overview of the GenAI use cases being developed by DPPs, and the drivers, benefits and potential challenges associated with these developments. We also provide recommendations to DPPs and their enterprise customers to minimise the risks and maximise the benefits associated with using GenAI along the data value chain.
