Telecoms operators can boost IoT revenue by targeting the ‘long tail’ of relatively uncompetitive use cases
Operators in the IoT market often target large revenue opportunities, overlooking the ‘long tail’ of smaller low-profile use cases. Established IoT markets, such as connected cars and smart metering, feature large contracts with binary outcomes – winning is significant, but missing out can be costly.
In contrast, the long-tail IoT markets feature many smaller contracts, improving engagement opportunities. Individually, these smaller use cases do not generate high revenue, but their combined potential can be significant.
Understanding diverse use cases allows operators and IoT players to develop solutions that are suited to several long-tail markets.
