"Most respondents have yet to fully use true 5G services, spending only a small share of their handset usage time on them."

Many operators had hoped that the launch of 5G would drive an increase in customer spending. This report examines consumer interest in 5G services and highlights key challenges operators face in monetising it, based on Analysys Mason’s consumer survey.

Questions answered in this report

  • What share of customers have a 5G-capable handset? How many customers have access to 5G services?
  • Which services do consumers want to use 5G for? How many customers are willing to pay extra for 5G?
  • What is the impact of the adoption of 5G services on satisfaction with mobile services?

Survey data coverage

This survey was conducted in association with Dynata in July 2024. The survey group was chosen to be representative of the mobile-internet-using population in the surveyed countries. We set quotas on age, gender and geographical spread to that effect. There were at least 1000 respondents per country, apart from in Saudi Arabia and the UAE (which had 750).

Geographical coverage

  • North America: Canada and the USA
  • Asia–Pacific: Australia, Malaysia and New Zealand
  • Europe: France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the UK
  • The Middle East and Africa: Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the UAE
